The Hammocks at Southport June 2026

Five Artsy Chicks is a group of local artists who, in 2023, stopped saying "We should have a Christmas art show" and decided to actually make it happen. Three of the artists currently reside in The Hammocks, where the show has taken place in the coziness of different Hammocks homes.

Save the Date

We are excited to announce our fourth Artsy Chicks Christmas Show taking place:

Sunday, December 6, 2026 | 1:00 – 4:00 PM 250 Sand Dollar Lane (The Waters)

Stand by for additional Save the Date reminders and updates on what we are creating, as well as more about each artist.

Meet the Five Artsy Chicks

Susan V. Adams has participated in the art world for 30 years. Her work has won awards and been exhibited in galleries in Tennessee, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. She also co-owned an art gallery in Tennessee showcasing regional artists. A highlight of her career was when HGTV came to her Tennessee studio and filmed a feature story on Susan and her botanical art. Her current mediums are oils, watercolors, and textiles. Susan resides in The Hammocks.

Betsy Johnston is known for her beautiful mosaic glass ornaments and wreaths. She also creates intricate jewelry made in the ancient art form of kumihimo braiding and beads. Her goal is to capture the essence of the sea and sun, reflected in her collection's name, Marisol. Betsy loves to learn new techniques and experiment with different materials — and her ornaments sell out fast, so best get to the show early! She is also the creator of the group's fun logo. Betsy is a former Hammocks resident who recently downsized a few blocks away.

Doreen McGauvran creates with wood, metal, fused glass, and found objects. Found objects that most of us pass by become fascinating art in her hands. Doreen will again feature her ever-popular Bedspring Snowpeople, each with their own enchanting personality — another great reason to come early. She has recently been creating colorful fused glass wonders, an exciting new medium for her, and has had her art exhibited in various venues in North Carolina and Florida. Doreen resides in The Hammocks.

Katrina Shinn fell in love with photography while sharing images taken during the sunset boat tours she and her husband offer. She is a member of the Wildlife Artists of the Carolinas and participates in local art shows throughout the year. She has recently expanded her creative journey into painting. Katrina's art can be seen at Franklin Square Gallery, Soul Flow Gallery, and Artisan's Gallery, all in Southport. Follow her on Facebook at Katrina Shinn Photography and visit her website at www.katrinasfocusonnature.com. Katrina resides in The Hammocks.

Sally A. Sloan is a prolific textile artist who has sewn her whole life. She took a quilting class upon moving to Southport and continued honing her skills while assembling quilts for a local quilting business. Sally now creates a myriad of decorative items that enhance everyday living and travel for men and women. Her new focus is on decorative and functional rope baskets that incorporate textiles, yarns, and beads. She is also the pastry chef behind the scrumptious cookies that guests receive as a "thank you." Sally lives just across The Hammocks border in The Waters and is our show hostess this year.
